Me and My Relationship

The Nature of Our Relationships…

We interact with many people every day. Sometimes the interactions are sweet and sometimes sour; sometimes we get motivated and sometimes depressed. Some relationships are mandatory and some voluntary, some fixed and some changeable; some professional and some enjoyable.

No matter what type of relationship it is, they all have something in common –a lesson to be learned and a need to be met!

In fact, the more difficult the relationship is, the more lessons are there to learn.

A difficult Relationship helps the individual to develop Patience, Tolerance, and Forgiveness.

Master Choa Kok Sui

Some people think that if they need to work on a relationship, then it is not the right relationship for them! What should be realized is that good relationships don’t just happen! As we need to work on having a good and healthy physical body through exercise, proper diet, positive thoughts, and emotions, a good relationship also requires enough care and nurturing.

No matter how sweet and beloved a person is, there will still be shortcomings. There is a saying that, “Roses always come with thorns!”

When two people interact closely, there is friction. The lubricant is Love – in the form of Loving Thoughts, Loving Feelings, Loving Words and Loving Actions.

In fact, people who switch from one relationship to another, hoping to find the perfect match some day without learning anything from their relationships, should realize that not learning the lessons brings about the same situation again, leading the same pattern to be repeated over and over again in their future relationships.

So the smart way is to analyze each relationship thoroughly and learn the lessons that each relationship brings along.

Observe the level of interaction and analyze the relationship from various perspectives. Is it because of a physical necessity or due to an emotional need? Is it for a professional reason or because of a greater purpose?!

Check what is the outcome of each relationship, what you give and what you receive in return. Is it for a personal benefit or does it involve the benefit of many people? Is it selfish or selfless?!

After observing and understanding the nature of each relationship, work on it and make it work perfectly; nurture it to reach a greater degree of harmony. It is easier to improve the condition of your relationship if you know its nature and characteristic well.

Hatred does not cease by hatred, but only by love; this is the eternal rule.

In relationships, although, it might not be possible to remove the problems completely, we can still learn how to handle the difficult situations, to minimize the arguments and save the relationships from a breakdown.

According to Master Choa Kok Sui, one of the major reasons why a marriage or a relationship tends to breakdown is because one or both people involved tend to use each other as a “psychic garbage can.” This means that if one experiences an extremely stressful day, or if one is emotionally hurt by a third person or situation, he/she, consciously or unconsciously, finds it relieving to dump or release the stress energy on the other person. The result, normally, is a heated exchange of words, and in some cases, physical violence. The effect, eventually, is a breakdown in a marriage or a relationship. The key is to be aware of this pattern, and learn how to handle life stresses, and to love, forgive and forget. Let the matter pass, but work on it to improve it.

If possible, avoid unnecessary direct confrontation. Try handling the matter civilizedly and diplomatically. Be Realistic! Everybody makes mistakes. Forgive and forget and continue living. By giving a person Love you make them grow.

Basically, a strong and healthy relationship is one of the best supports in life. As a good relationship can improve all the aspects of life and bring good health, happiness, and peace of mind, an inharmonious relationship can also be a tremendous drain. Therefore, it is necessary to take care of our relationships and look at them as an investment to achieve greater happiness in life.

Whether a relationship is in a lower level or a higher level, to address the body or the soul, there is a lesson in each relationship that helps us grow. The key is to understand the nature of our relationships and how they can help us grow.
